Personally, I never remember to check my favorite sites to see when they've been updated. Since this site has gone through dry periods in the past without updates, I am sure many people got tired of checking back and seeing nothing new. I've been thinking about that problem for a while, and a mailing list for updates seems like the best solution to it.
